Karlovy Vary filmfest awards ‘The Exam’

‘The Exam’ grabs award at the Karlovy Vary Int’l filmfset in Czech Republic.

Iraqi director Shawkat Amin Korki’s ‘The Exam’ has grabbed an award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) in the Czech Republic.

Penned by Iranian scenarist Mohammad-Reza Gohari and Amin Korki, the movie won the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize of the Czech event’s 55th edition.

‘The Exam’, a coproduction of Iraq, Germany and Qatar, is about Rojin, a young woman who must pass the university exam successfully if she wants to escape an arranged marriage set for her.

Rojin’s older sister who has lived the same fate and now lives with her unpleasant husband tries the best of her powers to help Rojin. But, whatever help she gives causes even more problems.

Avan Jamal, Vania Salar, Hussein Hassan, Hoshyar Nerwayi, Kawa Kadir, Shwan Attoof are the cast members of the flick.

The Karlovy Vary Festival is one of the oldest in the world and has become Central and Eastern Europe’s leading film event.

The KVIFF cancels this year’s edition in view of the Czech government’s ongoing coronavirus measures and the complicated worldwide situation today.

The 55th edition of the Czech festival took place on August 20-28, 2021.
